Bei neutralem oder leicht basischem pH-Wert (7–9) greift es schnell lösungsmittelzugängliche Lysin-NH*2*-Gruppen, N-Termini und Amine an und installiert die Alkylazidogruppe, die als bioorthogonales Griffstück für die Kupfer-katalysierte Alkin-Azid-Cycloaddition dient ( CuAAC).
