Staining of species:
E. coli pink (by reaction of the β-D-galactosidase);
Enterobacter, Klebsiella dark blue to violet (by reaction of the β-D-galactosidase and β-D-glucosidase);
Proteus light brown (by reaction of the tryptophan deaminase);
Enterococcus light to medium blue (by reaction of the β-D-glucosidase);
Staphylococcus light beige (natural colony colour).
