Chaotropic agent that potently destroys the three-dimensional structure of proteins, leading to denaturation. Guanidin hydrochloride is used for protein denaturation as well as for releasing proteins from fusion bodies (Phage plaque membrane filters), and for renaturation/refolding of proteins.
